Jerry Wayne Lawson

The Watkins Nurseries Family regrets to announce the passing of Jerry Wayne Lawson on February 29, 2024. Head Landscape Designer for Watkins Nurseries, Jerry was exceptionally talented, intelligent and an integral, dedicated member of our family.

Jerry worked with Watkins Nurseries for 42 years, designing many residential and commercial landscape projects across the Commonwealth of Virginia. A certified member of the Virginia Society of Landscape Designers, Jerry’s innate ability to connect with nature along with his unparalleled artistic mind allowed him to create class, practicality, and beauty to any project he undertook.

Jerry worked hard but just as much, he lived. He was a true outdoorsman, admiring natures splendor through fishing, hunting, collecting sea glass , road tripping with his wife Cindy, and making memories at the river with friends and family. He kept to a schedule, oftentimes ending his day of hard work with a much deserved stop at Legends Brewery to unwind and bring snacks to those working. A comrade of the highest quality, he was always generous in sharing his delightful sense of humor and his skillful wisdom.

Jerry’s untimely passing has devastated those blessed to know him. His presence on this earth is already extremely missed. His impact on the communities and ecosystems of Virginia will ensure his memory will live on, as if it could ever be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay www.allianceforthebay.org or Trout Unlimited https://www.tu.org/ or Virginia Society of Landscape Designers, www.vsld.org in which a link will be provided for Jerry and donations made will go to the VSLD scholarship fund. A celebration of life will be held on April 6, 2024, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the American Legion Post 354, 4800 Welby Turn, Midlothian, VA 23113.

Please keep the family and friends of Jerry Lawson in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.

“Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass, of glory in the tree and flower. While we grieve, we too find strength in what remains behind” W. Wordsworth
